Native Plants in Landscape – Plant It Wild

Location: Botanic Garden Visitor Center
$25 class fee (proceeds support The Botanic Garden)
This insightful class on native plants will be led by Cheryl Gross of Plant It Wild. The class will focus on the importance of the use of native plant species in our own gardens and landscapes. Learn the countless benefits of the use of native plants in landscaping and how to create a beautiful and sustainable environment outside your front door.

Grow a Birdfeeder

Location: Trinity Lutheran Church 955 James St., Frankfort, MI on James Street between 9th and 10th Streets.
It’s our famous Potluck Dinner! Bring your appetite, a dish to pass, your table service, and your friends. After dinner Kay Charter of Saving Birds Thru Habitat will tell us about the essential importance of native plants to birds and other wildlife. Find out why non-native vegetation is contrary to conservation at all levels. Kay will share her effort to grow a prairie habitat to save migrating birds.

Join the Invasive Species Network for a free landowner workshop to learn more about invasive species identification and management! This is a great opportunity to talk to professionals about the best approach to manage species on your own property. After the workshop, we will be venturing outside to practice ID and remove some plants on the Natural Education Reserve. Catered refreshments will be provided. Forest Management Workshop and Tree Farm Field Day

Location: Conference Building in the Misty Acres Farm Area
,During this workshop you will learn about different factors to consider when making management decisions in your forested property. Specific topics will include defining your objectives, tree species and what they require, revenue from harvesting trees, wildlife habitat, diversity of species and structure, environmental quality, and invasive species. The field day will also introduce the American Tree Farm System, a voluntary forest certification program for family forest owners. “Tree Farm” is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2016.
